The year past.

Throughout the year, attendance at the monthly meeting has been consistently high. The wide range of interesting and entertaining topics has been presented by speakers, many of whom were members of our own branch of the U3A. One recalled his growing up as the son of a lighthouse keeper, another spoke of her long spell of teaching in Malawi, and one of our group’s intrepid travellers gave an illustrated talk regarding his trip to Antarctica. We also heard from a native of Rathlin about the hardship endured as a young mother living on the island, and Padraig Coyle of BBC fame charted the history of broadcasting through his career. Other talks included “Flexible Friends”(looking after your joints) and “Food for the body and soul” by a nutritution expert.  The Christmas party at the December meeting had yet another enjoyable and hilarious presentation by the Music and Drama group followed by seasonal songs and carols.

In October 2008, thirty-six of our members went on and Art and Culture tour of Tuscany and Umbria. Reports from participants were so glowing that this year
another trip has been planned. A larger group is off to Northern Italy and Lake Garda. On September 12th. We hope to post reports and photographs on the website

The highlight of the past year was the hosting of two study days for all the U3A, groups in Northern Ireland. Meticulous planning and preparation went into the organisation of the Study Days and we heartily thank the many members who contributed to the success of the event by volunteering their services.  The feedback both oral and written was very positive and all who participated seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed it. The impromptu entertainment from visitors and our members at the Thursday night Dinner proves what a very talented lot U3A members are. We look forward to developing all talents in years to come.
